Advanced SFE Troubleshooting: How to Fix Bolivia's Most Common Invoicing Errors

Rejected invoices, SIAT system errors, CUFD mismatches, and offline transmission failures — Bolivia's SFE breaks in predictable ways. Here's how to diagnose and fix each one fast.

Rejected Invoices: Causes & Fixes

A rejected invoice in the SFE system means the SIN's server received your invoice data but refused to validate it. The rejection always includes an error code — learning to read these codes is the fastest way to resolve issues.

ERROR 001 / NIT_INVALIDO

Invalid NIT on the invoice

The NIT you entered for the buyer doesn't exist in the SIN registry, or has a typo. This is the single most common rejection cause.

✅ Fix: Verify the NIT at consulta.impuestos.gob.bo before issuing. Annul the rejected invoice and reissue with the correct NIT. Never guess a NIT from memory.
ERROR 002 / ACTIVIDAD_NO_AUTORIZADA

Activity code not authorized for your NIT

You're invoicing for a service or product category that your SIN registration doesn't include. Common for businesses that expand their services without updating their economic activity registration.

✅ Fix: Update your economic activity codes (CAEB codes) at your nearest SIN office. This can take 3–5 business days. In the meantime, only invoice for registered activities.
ERROR 003 / FECHA_FUERA_RANGO

Invoice date outside the allowed range

The date on the invoice is more than 5 days in the past or in the future. Most common when invoices are backdated or when system clock drift occurs on offline devices.

✅ Fix: Ensure your invoicing device's clock is synced to an accurate time source. For offline devices, check the clock before each route. Issue the invoice with the current date and document the actual transaction date in the description field if needed.
ERROR 006 / MONTO_INVALIDO

Invalid amount — zero or negative value

The invoice amount is zero, negative, or formatted incorrectly (commas instead of periods as decimal separator, or extra spaces).

✅ Fix: Bolivia's SFE uses period (.) as decimal separator. Bs. 1.500,00 is wrong; Bs. 1500.00 is correct. Check your system's regional settings if this error appears frequently.

When SIAT Is Down: What To Do

SIAT (Sistema Integrado de Administración Tributaria) outages are the most frustrating SFE problem because the error isn't yours — the government's system is simply unavailable. But your obligation to invoice doesn't pause.

Your options when SIAT is down:

  1. Switch to Offline Mode. If your SFE software supports offline operation, switch immediately. Generate and issue invoices offline; they'll transmit automatically when SIAT comes back online. The 24-hour transmission window starts when the invoice is issued, not when SIAT recovers.
  2. Use Factura de Contingencia. If you have pre-authorized contingency invoice books from the SIN, these can be used during system outages. They must be reported to the SIN within 48 hours of the outage ending.
  3. Document the outage. Screenshot the SIAT error page with timestamp. If a client complains about a delayed invoice, this documentation protects you from penalty.
⚠️ Do Not

Do not simply skip invoicing during a SIAT outage and issue the invoice days later with the correct date. Backdating an invoice after a SIAT outage without using the contingency or offline mechanisms is an invoicing irregularity — even if the underlying sale was real.

24 hrs
Transmission window for offline-issued invoices
48 hrs
Deadline to report contingency invoices after outage ends
5 days
Maximum date range allowed for invoice backdating

CUFD Errors & Mismatches

The CUFD (Código Único de Factura Digital) is the unique identifier assigned to each invoice by the SFE system. CUFD errors typically appear when there's a mismatch between what your software generated and what the SIN expects.

Common CUFD issues:

💡 Prevention

Set a CUFD low-stock alert in your SFE software. Refreshing at 20% remaining gives you enough buffer to request and receive new codes before exhaustion — which would halt your invoicing entirely.

Offline Transmission Failures

You issued invoices in offline mode, but when your device reconnected, the transmission failed or showed errors. This is one of the most urgent SFE problems because the 24-hour window is already ticking.

Troubleshooting steps:

  1. Check connectivity first. Is your device actually connected to the internet, or just to a local WiFi with no actual internet access? Test by opening a browser and navigating to an external site.
  2. Check SIAT status. If SIAT is having an outage, your transmission will fail even with good connectivity. Wait for SIAT to recover — the 24-hour window applies from invoice issuance, and outage time is generally considered in penalty assessments.
  3. Check certificate validity. Your SFE software certificate may have expired. Certificates typically need renewal annually. An expired certificate will cause all transmissions to fail silently.
  4. Force a manual sync. Most SFE software has a "retry transmission" or "force sync" button. Use it after confirming connectivity and SIAT status.
  5. Contact your SFE software provider. If manual sync fails and connectivity is confirmed, the issue may be with your software's API connection to SIAT. This is a provider-side fix.

Annulling & Reissuing Invoices Correctly

When an invoice has an error that can't be corrected (wrong NIT, wrong amount, wrong service description), you must annul it and reissue. The annulment process is strict:

⚠️ Same-Month Rule

If your client reports an invoice error in a different month from when it was issued, you cannot annul — you must issue a credit note for the full amount of the incorrect invoice, then issue a new correct invoice. Annulling across months is not permitted in the SFE system.

RCV Reconciliation Errors

The RCV (Registro de Compras y Ventas) is your monthly sales and purchase ledger, due by the 9th of the following month. Reconciliation errors here are serious — they affect your IVA declaration and can trigger audit flags.

Common RCV errors and fixes:

Prevention: Building Error-Resistant Workflows

The best SFE troubleshooting is prevention. These practices eliminate most common errors before they occur:

✅ The Golden Rule

Most SFE problems are caught too late because businesses only look at their invoicing status when something goes wrong. A 15-minute weekly audit of your transmission log catches 90% of issues before they become penalties.

Facturas Rechazadas: Causas y Soluciones

  1. Cambia a Modo Offline. Si tu software SFE soporta operación offline, cambia inmediatamente.
⚠️ No Hagas Esto

Anular y Reemitir Facturas Correctamente
